Which Came First, The Faith Or The Egg?

Tracy Norrell of Burleson, Texas, was collecting eggs from his chicken coop Monday night when he noticed that, well, one of the eggs didn’t look like the others. It wasn’t smooth and had a cross indented in one end. He and his wife Pam think the egg was laid “straight from heaven” and is a message of encouragement. They haven’t decided what to do with the egg yet but say eating it is out of the question.

Mary On The Half Shell

About a year ago, Shirley McVane of Burbank, Illinois, received a gift from her grandson — two tiny baby turtles. Recently, she noticed that one of them had begun to develop what she believes to be an image of the Virgin Mary on the underside of its shell. She promptly renamed the turtle Mary, and of course its tank mate became Joseph. Hopefully there will be a baby turtle soon. I wonder what she’ll name it.

Barking Up A Religious Tree

People in East Chicago, Indiana, have been flocking to see two trees, one which they say has an image of Jesus holding his hands together and looking down [see photo on left], while the tree next to it shows the Virgin Mary looking over at her son. The tree on the other side has plain bark. How boring.

Postscript: City officials have turned off the streetlight that’s critical to seeing the image because residents complained about the traffic jam. And the large fight that broke out on Friday night.

Salt Of The Earth…I Mean, Heavens

A shrine has popped up by an expressway underpass in Chicago where people say salt stains on the concrete look like the Virgin Mary. Believers are flocking to the site even though the new Pope has made no public comment about it nor booked a flight yet.

POSTSCRIPT: On May 6th a man was arrested for scrawling the words “big lie” over the stain. Authorities then painted over the whole thing. R.I.P.

LATER THE SAME DAY: The Chicago Tribune reports that, like Jason, the image is back. “One or more people somehow began to remove the paint. It was not known how they did it, but by afternoon, the image was back largely intact and apparently with no sign of the graffiti that had marred it.”
