Another Shell Game
A woman in Winston-Salem, NC has a seashell she says has an image of Jesus on it. So of course she’s selling it on eBay. Actually she’s selling “a small wooden curio cabinet approximately 7” x 10” x 2” filled with various types of beans and a simple sea shell in the middle.” In case you’re not certain why a Jesus seashell is better than a grilled cheese sandwich, she explains: “Please note this item is not grilled cheese, it won’t rot, decompose or shrivel up and wither away; it is an actual sea shell you will be able to cherish forever.” As DeBeers used to say, “Seashells are forever.”

(S)he Appears On Seashells By The Seashore
It might sound fishy, but a California man is selling a seashell with an image of the Virgin Mary on eBay, of all places. Or maybe it’s Jesus. The shell’s owner, David Johnson, isn’t sure. Neither is Father Hanna Sakkab of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in City Heights who, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, thought “it evoked either Jesus Christ or the Virgin Mary, crowned with a halo and carrying a baby.” Johnson found it on a beach in Monterey, CA and held onto it for a year. It would look great on a puka shell necklace.

Giving Satan Equal Time
Lucky the turtle was the only animal to survive a pet store fire in Indiana. Store owner Bryan Dora says that, as a result, the image of Satan appeared on the turtle’s shell, complete with goatee and pointy horns. Amazingly, he’s produced a DVD of the turtle’s story and plans to auction it — and Lucky — online. So far the closest thing on eBay is a “Turtle Towel Personalized Dora Print,” perfect for drying off possessed reptiles. At left is a non-artist’s rendering of what we imagine Lucky’s shell looks like. After the DVD release we’ll find out for sure.
